Life as Amber knows it

On January 4, 2012, I did something I never thought I’d get the chance to do: I published my first book.

“The Color of Dawn” was a collection of poetry I assembled with the awesome Barry Crowther’s help, after he read my work and told me I needed to publish it ASAP. A friend let me use a photo he had taken that summed up perfectly what I felt when I wrote the title poem, and my awesome younger sister Becky worked her magic and made me a cover that had me bouncing up and down in my desk chair when I saw it.  Barry handled all the formatting and assembly of the book, and on January 3, I received and email from him, telling me to log into my KDP account and hit publish.

Six hours later, my hand was still hovering over my mouse, and my husband said, “Just publish the damn thing! What are you waiting for?”

I finally just closed my eyes tight, and clicked the damn publish icon. When it went live the next day, I stared in awe at my computer monitor, in total disbelief that I had a published book.

Since that lynch-pin moment of my life, I’ve published an additional seven books. I’ve started two podcasts, began work on starting my own publishing company, started a yearly erotica flash fiction competition, finished a book I’ve been writing since 2000, and have started an organization (with the help of a few other kick-ass authors as well) that will publish a yearly anthology with the purpose of all proceeds going to a non-profit group to help them further their positive influence in the world.

Not too bad if you ask me.

We live in a world that at times, seems like its steeping in the negative. So I believe firmly we should celebrate everything excellent that happens in our lives.
