The “Eric Special”

As a stay at home mom (been clocking hours at that job for well over seven years now)  I kick ass at the day to day job duties that particular job entails: Food preparation, boo-boo kissing, being a nurse, dealing with an obscene amount of laundry, and so on and so forth.  My day starts at around 5 a.m., and on a good night, I crawl into bed around 11 p.m.  It is probably one of the most thankless jobs out there.  I don’t earn a paycheck, but I do get lots of hugs and kisses, which makes up for the lack of money earned.

So if I kick ass at all of that?  I suck-ass at one thing:  Taking time for myself.

So on Saturday night, after holding the #1 position for 20th Century Poetry on Amazon.com for my book “The Color of Dawn”, I went out with a friend to celebrate.  The last time I went out, with having no plan of what I was doing, or when I’d be home?  Early November 2006.

Yep, I’m pretty pathetic.

But fortunately, my good friend Erica was up for having a good time as well, and we hit a local bar not too far from our houses; There we got the world’s most bad-ass bartender.  After finishing my third screwdriver and asking for a fourth, Eric the Bartending God, made a deal with me:  If I let him make me a drink, I’d try it with no questions, and if I didn’t like it, it would go down the drain and I’d go back to screwdrivers.

I am now officially in love with Eric, the Bartending God.

Is “drinkgasm” even a word?  Well, I’m making it one.  After being sworn to secrecy, Eric let me know the ingredients to “The Eric Special”.  BEST. DRINK. EVER!

So being that we were celebrating my poetry book hitting #1, I was dared by the kick ass staff at Savour to write a poem about the drink and the night.  Which I did, and made a copy for our excellent bartender.

To Eric and the staff at Savour and my friend Erica?  Thank you for a damn good night.  I’ll be seeing you again in two weeks to blow off steam.
